Final Clarifiers in Activated Sludge Process

Educational version by Petr Grau, Aquanova International Ltd, Prague

Final clarifiers are used in the activated sludge process (ASP) to separate, thicken and enable recycling of thickened activated sludge. An appropriate introduction to the activated sludge process can be found in Eckenfelder and Grau (1992, 1998), Orhon and Artan (1994), Henze et al. (1995). Activated sludge process is of such a general importance that it can be found even at the World Bank website.

Comprehensive information on clarifiers can be found in Albertson (1992), Daigger (1995), Ekama et al. (1997), WEF Manual of Practice (2005).
